Rob and Shane

Childhood friends Rob Robbins and Shane Stanger had a plan to open a restaurant together from a young age.

Over Thanksgiving 2012, during a visit back to their hometown of San Diego, the idea to open The Baked Bear hit them and they realized this was the time to move back home to pursue their dream. “Really, you are leaving to go open an ice cream sandwich shop?!” they were asked by colleagues and friends with skepticism when they quickly dropped their respective careers for a half baked plan that soon found them living back at home with their parents. Far from discouraged, Shane and Rob went right to work creating their recipes in Robbins’ family bakery. A couple of months after moving home they found the perfect location in the heart of Pacific Beach and were open by May of 2013. The day they opened for business, they were shocked to see lines going all the way down the street, and they knew they had created something special. The Baked Bear quickly became a San Diego staple and 3 months after opening, they were invited to open their second location inside of Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres. The boys are working hard every day to grow the brand, without losing sight of their original goal: serving freshly baked, gourmet cookies paired with premium ice cream at an affordable price.
